CULT OF THE PEOPLE
The idea of the people in liturgical movements and reforms.
An ecumenical revision
Conference of the Roman Institute of the Görres Society in cooperation with the Melanchthon Centre Rome and the Liturgical Conference of the EKD
Since the 19th century, there have been liturgical renewal movements on both the Catholic and Protestant sides, some of which were strongly inspired by the idea of popular liturgy. Where do the sources of the folk idea lie? To what extent did they want to position themselves socially? To what extent did the idea of the people lead to an over-forming and instrumentalization of conventional or ostensibly rediscovered ecclesiological-theological concepts in the pre-fascist, National Socialist and post-war periods?
These are just some of the questions that will be raised during the conference.
Organiser: Msgr. Prof. Dr. Stefan Heid (Roman Görres Institute),
Prof. Dr. Markus Schmidt (University of Applied Sciences of the Diakonie, Bethel)
in cooperation with the Melanchthon Centre Rome and the Liturgical Conference of the EKD, sponsored by the Fritz Thyssen Foundation
